Engaging Hospices in Quality Measurement and Improvement: Early Experiences of a Large Integrated Healthcare System

The quality of hospice care remains highly variable in the United States. Patients, providers, and healthcare systems lack a comprehensive method of measuring the quality of care provided by an individual hospice. Partners HealthCare sought to assess hospice quality based on objective and quantitative criteria obtained directly from hospices and through public reporting. Here we describe the process of creating and administering this assessment, and the initial creation of a collaborative network with high quality hospices.
