Correlation between ictal SPECT injection timing and epileptogenic focus localization

Conclusions: Ictal-interictal SPECT provides a noninvasive option for presurgical analysis of epileptogenic focus. To ensure accurate SPECT images are acquired, the radioisotope injection must begin as close to the onset of a patient’s seizure as possible. The clinical onset typically differs from the EEG onset times, and this study showed a six second difference of mean times. The ictal injection challenges and variance of onset times lead us to believe discrepancies could be found in ictal-interictal SPECT findings with further analysis.
