Authors: Zheng YJ, Li DL, Luo, Chen XP, Zhang B, Fang C, Gan Y, Li B, Su S Abstract OBJECTIVE: Here, we aimed to compare early hepatectomy (EH) with delayed hepatectomy (DH) as a treatment for spontaneously ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Several databases were systematically searched for eligible studies that compared DH with EH for spontaneously ruptured HCC treatment. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were reviewed systematically, and the reported data were aggregated statistically, using the RevMan v5.3 software. RESULTS: Seven studies were included, with a total of 385 patients,...

CONCLUSIONS: Overall adherence to published guidelines for VTE prophylaxis has improved compared with other published reviews on the topic, but documentation of patients' VTE risk in files is poor. Overuse in low-risk patients may be an unintended consequence of the widespread advocacy of LMWH use in hospital, highlighting the importance of adequate VTE risk stratification. Incorrect dosing in special population groups is an issue that needs to be addressed, as is non-utilisation of mechanical prophylaxis methods. PMID: 32657702 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Aplastic anaemia is a rare and serious bone marrow failure disorder causing a high risk of life-threatening bleeding and infections, and requiring frequent hospital admissions. Current definitive treatments for aplastic anaemia are stem cell transplant or immunosuppressive therapy with antithymocyte globulin and/or ciclosporin. Stem cell transplant is a procedure in which a patient receives healthy stem cells to replace damaged stem cells. Immunosuppressive treatment is where drugs are given to lower the body's immune response. Stem cell transplant and antithymocyte globulin treatment require hospital admission

abstract A 60-year-old woman was under investigation of dyspeptic symptoms. The upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a cystic subepithelial lesion in the second portion of the duodenum, measuring 8 mm in its longest diameter. The biopsy showed dilated Brunner ’ s gland lobular ducts with scattered stromal elements, what characterized a Brunner ’ s gland cyst. Brunner ’ s gland cyst should be included in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal bleeding, dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), malabsorption syndrome, anemia, among others. The correct nomenclature is important to facilit...

Conclusions: The tongue flaps are an excellent alternative for closing large or recurrent palatal fistulas, due to their versatility and excellent vascularity of the area. However, the design and the delicate manipulation of the flap are also decisive.RESUMEN Objetivos: Se realiz ó un estudio retrospectivo en el Departamento de Cirugía Oral y Maxilofacial Dr. Atilio Perdomo, Hospital Ángel Larralde, Carabobo- Venezuela, que describe el procedimiento y protocolo del postoperatorio de pacientes operados en múltiples oportunidades para el cierre de fístulas palatales. Discussion Pregnancy complications in early pregnancy range from mild to severe. They can include nausea and emesis which often is treated symptomatically, but can cause hyperemesis gravidarum and need hospitalization for intravenous fluids. Mild cramping and slight spotting are not uncommon. Some type of pregnancy bleeding is common with 20-40% of women experiencing it. Women who have early vaginal bleeding have a higher risk of later pregnancy complications. Pregnancy in adolescents is about 10% of all pregnancies. Adolescent pregnancy can be associated with various problems including higher rates of threatened aborti...
