Repositioning accuracy of a novel thermoplastic mask for head and neck cancer radiotherapy
Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) has improved clinical outcomes with excellent dose distribution. For head and neck cancer, doses delivered to critical organs such as the parotid gland and spinal cord can be reduced, promising improved quality of life for patients [1 –4]. To achieve accurate beam delivery, patient positioning and immobilization are important. For head and neck treatments, a thermoplastic mask covering head and shoulders is often used to reproduce the same positioning [5–8].
