1171 maximizing survival in hilar cholangiocarcinoma patients using multi-modality therapy: photodynamic therapy (pdt) with stenting, chemotherapy, and radiation
Most hilar cholangiocarcinoma patients are not surgical candidates, leaving limited options of biliary stenting and chemotherapy. Adding photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been shown in prior studies to improve survival. Survival in one meta-analysis by Moole et al1 in cholangiocarcinoma patients showed median survival benefit of 7.6 months with addition of PDT. However, these studies focused on addition of PDT to stenting and chemotherapy mainly. Radiation therapy has been used in some cases of hilar tumors.
