ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter C4 is a Prostaglandin D2 Exporter in HMC-1 cells

ATP-binding cassette transporter C4 (ABCC4) functions as an efflux pump for certain antiviral drugs (adefovir) and anticancer drugs (methotrexate), which contributes to chemotherapy resistance [1]. In addition to functioning as a multidrug resistance-associated protein, ABCC4 is thought to mediate intra- and intercellular signalling by export of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and some bioactive lipid mediators [2-5]. Our research group and others have reported that ABCC4 transports certain prostaglandins (PGs) as high affinity substrates [4-7].
