Prognostic significance of C-MYC dysregulation in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: a meta-analysis.

Prognostic significance of C-MYC dysregulation in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: a meta-analysis. Biomark Med. 2020 May 28;: Authors: Shi X, Zhou R, Zheng L, Jiang M Abstract Aim: The clinicopathological and prognostic significance of C-MYC dysregulation (amplification or overexpression) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains controversial. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to elucidate this relationship. Materials &methods: Available studies were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library, and ten studies with a total of 1432 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Results: Pooled results showed that C-MYC dysregulation was significantly associated with poor overall survival (hazard ratio: 1.405 [95% CI: 1.170-1.639]; p

We report patterns of failure in our patients of esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC) treated with trimodal approach. This is a single-institution retrospective analysis of 46 patients of locally advanced ESCC (treated between 2013 and 2017) managed by trimodal treatment approach. Variables were summarized using descriptive statistics. Survival statistics were estimated using Kaplan-Meier method. With a median follow-up of about 28  months, we noted an overall recurrence rate of 37% (17/46), with most of the failures being distant, with or without locoregional recurrence (4 isolated distant and 6 combined distant an...

Authors: Hirose S, Hasegawa N, Kawai H, Yamaura M, Mizui T, Komatsu Y, Nagase M, Sato M, Hattori J, Endo M, Yamamoto Y, Ishige K, Fukuda K, Hyodo I, Mizokami Y Abstract A 70-year-old woman was referred to our department due to a solitary mediastinal tumor which gradually grew near the site of anastomosis for 8 years after radical surgery of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. It was difficult to distinguish the lymph node recurrence of esophageal cancer from another tumor of unknown primary origin. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration was performed, and the tumor was diagnosed to be neuroendocrine ca...

Abstract Recent retrospective studies of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease (COVID-19) revealed that the patients with common comorbidities of cancers and chronic diseases face significantly poorer clinical outcomes than those without. Since the expression profile of ACE2, a crucial cell entry receptor for SARS-CoV-2, could indicate the susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection, here we systematically dissected ACE2 expression using large-scale multi-omics data from 30 organs/tissues, 33 cancer types and some common chronic diseases involving>28 000 samples. It was found that...

In this study, 8 overlapping differentially expressed genes of the MMP family were identified based on data obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus and The Cancer Genome Atlas. The prognostic value of these MMPs were investigated; the receiver operating characteristic curves, survival curves and nomograms showed that the combination of 6 selected MMPs possessed a good predictive ability, which was more accurate than the prediction model based on Tumor‑Node‑Metastasis stage. Gene set enrichment analysis and gene co‑expression analysis were performed to investigate the potential mechanism of action of MMPs in E...

Authors: Huang Z, Zhou B, Li Z, Liu C, Zheng C, Zeng R, Hong C, Xu L, Li E, Peng Y, Xu Y Abstract BACKGROUND: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has poor prognosis mainly due to the difficulty of making early diagnosis. Therefore, novel biomarkers are critically needed. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of serum interleukin-8 (IL-8) in ESCC. METHODS: Data mining of TCGA was used to analyze expression level of IL-8 mRNA in esophageal carcinoma. Serum levels of IL-8 were measured in 103 ESCC patients and 86 normal controls by ELISA. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve wa...
