Authors: Sencan S, Edipoglu IS, Celenlioglu AE, Yolcu G, Gunduz OH Abstract Background: We aimed to compare interlaminar epidural steroid injections (ILESI) and bilateral transforaminal epidural steroid injections (TFESI) on pain intensity, functional status, depression, walking distance, and the neuropathic component in patients with lumbar central spinal stenosis (LCSS). Methods: The patients were divided into either the ILESI or the bilateral TFESI groups. Prime outcome measures include the numerical rating scale (NRS), Oswestry disability index (ODI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and pain-free walking d...

Authors: Tünel M, Çakmak S, Tamam L, Demir T Abstract Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), typically associated with the triad of gait disturbance, dementia and urinary incontinence, rarely presents with symptoms of mania, depression or psychosis and psychiatric disorders may complicate the diagnosis. Few cases of NPH and psychiatric disease comorbidity have been reported so far. In most of these cases, NPH was associated with depression and psychotic symptoms. Mania symptoms were also reported in a few cases those of which were associated with a history of bipolar disorder (BPD) or subthreshold BPD sym...

CONCLUSION: In this study, it was determined that clozapine was effective as a mood stabilizer in Bipolar Affective Disorder treatment. The results show that clozapine reduces the episode frequency and the duration in rapid cycling Bipolar Affective Disorder which does not respond to all conventional treatments, including lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine and antipsychotic drugs. Authors: Gündüz N, Akpınar Aslan E, Eren F, Sodan Turan H, Öztürk M, Tural Ü Abstract OBJECTIVE: One of the METHODS used to assess autonomic nervous system dysfunction in the etiology of panic disorder (PD) is heart rate variability (HRV). HRV is controlled by the sympathetic and parasympathetic (vagal) branches of the autonomic nervous system and reflects the capacity of autonomic stimulation by the parasympathetic system. The aim of this study was to evaluate heart rate variability (HRV) time domain parameters based on twenty four hour holter ECG analysis among drug-naive patients with p...

CONCLUSION: Lack of a correlation between the negative symptoms and alexithymic symptoms in DS suggested that the respective symptoms represented different independent phenomena in schizophrenia. A future study might explore the relationship between alexithymia and negative symptoms in association with cognitive functioning. PMID: 32594483 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that less use of pronouns that refer to the couple (we-pronouns used by either partner) and greater use of pronouns that refer to the PWD (I-pronouns used by the PWD) are indicative of caregivers at heightened risk for lower well-being.
