Preface

The notion of paradigm shifts in science was introduced in 1962 by the American physicist and philosopher Thomas Kuhn, describing a set of fundamental changes in the basic concepts, and subsequently, practices, of a scientific discipline. During the last decades, the field of epilepsy surgery in the United States has been through what Kuhn termed a revolutionary period; a period during which a paradigm shift in the way we comprehend and address surgically treatable epilepsies is taking place within our scientific and clinical community.
