Delayed ureteral leak related to use of suspension tapes during the laparoscopic radical hysterectomy

Recently, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for cervical cancer has been shown to result in a higher recurrence rate than open surgery (1). Manipulation and handling of the uterine cervix during MIS may contribute to this finding (2-4). Hence, minimal handling of the uterine cervix is being promoted in cases where MIS is still used. The parametrium can be sufficiently exposed by suspension of the umbilical ligament and ureter from the abdominal wall, minimizing the need for handling of the uterine cervix (2).
