Since January 2020 when it was first isolated in China, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread throughout the world and caused substantial morbidity and mortality.(1) Despite the rapidly growing knowledge base on the clinical course of the disease, no therapeutic agents have been proven to be effective for COVID-19. Further clarification of the clinical course of the disease could help in the development of effective treatment strategies.
