Full time rotations typically start in third year. You rotate through all the core specialties including general internal medicine, surgical specialties, O&G, A&E, GP, psychiatry, paediatrics, anaesthetics, and maybe some others.
Length of rotations is variable - at my medical school all rotations were 8 weeks long except A&E which was 6 weeks.
You have to rotate through all the different specialties - you can't pick and choose, but the order in which you do them will vary.
Towards the end of medical school there is an elective period which you can spend working in any specialty you like, at home or abroad.
