Therapeutic targeting of brain arachidonic acid cascade in bipolar disorder by low dose aspirin and celecoxib

Mechanisms underlying bipolar disorder are not agreed on, but have been suggested to involve neuroinflammation, disturbed immunological competence, and disturbed diurnal cycling [1, 2]. Drug response studies in patients also have suggested that excessive catecholaminergic and glutamatergic but reduced cholinergic muscarinic neurotransmission contribute to bipolar symptoms [3, 4].
