Effect of serum 25 ‐hydroxyvitamin D levels on sperm quality and assisted reproductive technology outcomes for men of infertile Chinese couples

This study aimed to explore the association of serum 25 ‐hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels and semen parameters, as well as ART outcomes for men from infertile couples.Materials and MethodsThis study recruited 1,308 men from infertile couples who attended the Reproductive Medicine Center of Peking University Third Hospital for first time from February to August 2019(NCT03804294). Reproductive hormones levels, semen parameters and clinical outcomes of ART were compared between vitamin D deficient group (serum 25OHD ≤10 ng/mL), insufficient group (serum 25OHD 10‐20 ng/mL) and sufficient group (serum 25OHD≥20 ng/mL).ResultsWe found 27.7% of participants were vitamin D sufficient, suggesting high prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency in China. Reproductive hormones levels were similar between the three groups. The total number of morphologically normal sperms was significantly different between the three groups in all participants, impaired semen quality subgroup, and normozoospermia subgroup (P

Authors: Quinlan PT, Cohen DJ, Liu X Abstract Here we report the results of a speeded relative quantity task with Chinese participants. On each trial a single numeral (the probe) was presented and the instructions were to respond as to whether it signified a quantity less than or greater than five (the standard). In separate blocks of trials, the numerals were presented either in Mandarin or in Arabic number formats. In addition to the standard influence of numerical distance, a significant predictor of performance was the degree of physical similarity between the probe and the standard as depicted in Mandarin. Add...

Overall, 110 (91.7%) women said they would repeat the procedure and 111 (92.5%) that they would recommend it to another pregnant woman, with...

Authors: Grette K, Cassity S, Holliday N, Rimawi BH Abstract We performed a comprehensive systematic review of acute pyelonephritis in pregnancy using PubMed, SCOPUS, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Ovid from inception to April 2018. About 7796 references were screened for inclusion, and 52 references from 1908 to 2017 were included. One hundred seven cases of acute pyelonephritis in pregnant women were reviewed. Gestational age at diagnosis was reported as 2 (2%), 43 (40%), and 51 (52%) during the first, second, and third trimesters, respectively. Maternal complications included sepsis (49%), acute respiratory distress sy...

Authors: Wang J, Yue Y, Zhao Y, Ouyang X, Zhang H, Ding Z, Song W, Shi M, Li X, Li Q Abstract Human adenovirus infection is a common cause of upper and lower respiratory illness and easily breaks out in schools and the army. In an adenovirus epidemic, a large number of samples would be collected for laboratory diagnosis, and it is urgent to optimize the current sampling strategy. We researched the application of laboratory detection in the adenovirus epidemic and optimized the range of laboratory pathogen detection in the adenovirus epidemic by summarizing previous theoretical achievements, research reports, and ex...
