CONCLUSIONS: This post-vaccination study showed that less than one-fifth of the AIRD patients are adequately protected against pneumococcal infection, although the immunization programme had been implemented in more than half of the study population. Development of improved vaccination strategies is required to achieve a higher immunization coverage rate and more efficient lasting antibody response. In this study, we investigated the potential of serum CCN3 as a biomarker for RA. The serum levels of CCN3 were measured by ELISA. The clinical and laboratory parameters were collected from a clinical record system, and disease activity was determined by joint disease activity score 28 (DAS28). Our results showed that the serum levels of CCN3 were significantly increased in RA patients compared to healthy controls. CONCLUSIONS: The real impact of anti-TNF-α therapy on the development of AITD remains an open question. The available studies concern the adult population; there are no data regarding this problem in children. Due to the increasing use of anti-TNF-α therapy also in the paediatric population, it seems reasonable to evaluate this subject in this group of patients.
