Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition is a prognostic marker for patient outcome in advanced stage HNSCC patients treated with chemoradiotherapy

About half of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients present with advanced stage disease. In the case of hypopharyngeal, laryngeal and HPV-negative oropharyngeal carcinomas, chemoradiotherapy is the current treatment of choice for these patients[1]. Disease progression occurs in around 40%, stressing the need for additional treatment options for poor prognosis patients.
