Methodological considerations for the meta-analysis of metabolic syndrome in sub-Saharan Africa

We thank Kunutsor and Seidu [1] for their interest and comments on our systematic review on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA). We are grateful to Kunutsor and Seidu for highlighting the strengths and the relevance of the review and for emphasizing the need for further studies on non-communicable diseases in SSA. In brief, our review aimed to estimate the burden of MS in the entire SSA region. By doing so, we found an overall prevalence of MS ranging from 11.1% according to the WHO-criteria to 23.9% according to the JIS-criteria [2].
