Radiation Protection and Safety in Interventional Radiology.

Radiation Protection and Safety in Interventional Radiology. Radiol Technol. 2020 May;91(5):431-442 Authors: Wagner JB Abstract Interventional radiology procedures are targeted therapeutic procedures that can be performed on any body system and are a minimally invasive alternative to open or laparoscopic surgery. However, as with any procedure that uses ionizing radiation, risks are involved for the patient and the personnel performing the procedures. Deterministic and stochastic effects are possible, with the most common injury to patients being skin damage and the most common injury to personnel being cataracts. Along with traditional radiation protection methods, medical staff can take additional steps during these procedures to limit the dose to themselves and patients. PMID: 32381661 [PubMed - in process]
