This study aimed to indicate the risk factors of atrial fibrillation (AF) in thyrotoxic patients receiving radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy after antithyroid drug and other medication. Methods This study was a retrospective cohort study. Thyrotoxic patients were divided into two groups, with or without AF. Clinical features were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses of data from thyrotoxic patients were performed to evaluate the probability of AF. Results The following clinical factors were found to be correlated with AF: age, gender, duration of hyperthyroidism, coronary artery disease, hype...

Authors: Gabora K, Piciu A, Bădulescu IC, Larg MI, Stoian IA, Piciu D Abstract Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) are gaining more ground in oncology, they are widely used in the treatment of multiple types of cancers; still important side effects limit their efficacy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the existing medical literature on TKI induced thyroid dysfunction, to assess the adverse effects of targeted therapy on thyroid function in oncological patients and to evaluate the effects of thyroid dysfunction on disease prognosis. We included in this review 22 original studies published between 2010 and 2019. W...

AbstractPurposeTo comprehensively investigate the associations of subclinical thyroid dysfunction with BMD and fractures at various sites.MethodsComprehensive electronic and manual searches of databases were systematically conducted to identify prospective cohort studies from the inception of the databases to May 2019. The summary results for fractures and BMDs at various sites were calculated by relative risks (RRs) and weighted mean differences (WMDs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using the random-effects model.ResultsSeventeen prospective cohorts from 24 studies were identified and 313,557 individual...

ConclusionsNo apparent association was found between subclinical hypothyroidism or subclinical hyperthyroidism defined on single TSH measurement and BMD at the lumbar spine and femur in a large cohort of middle-aged men and women. Subclinical hypothyroidism was independently associated with a lower risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

ConclusionsThe BR method does not increase the remission rates. It may be useful to combine L-T4 with a medium dose of methimazole when GD is difficult to manage with methimazole alone. It may represent a therapeutic option to postpone definitive treatments to a suitable age.
