Influence of silica particles on mucociliary structure and MUC5B expression in airways of C57BL/6 mice.

Conclusions: Silica particles could lead to ultrastructural defects in airway cilia, mucus hypersecretion and altered MUC5B expression in trachea, indicating that impaired mucociliary structure and altered MUC5B production might participate in the development of silica-related respiratory diseases.
