RHB-105 Effective for Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in Adults

THURSDAY, May 7, 2020 -- A novel rifabutin-based triple therapy (RHB-105) is effective for eradication of Helicobacter pylori, with eradication rates unaffected by resistance to clarithromycin or metronidazole, according to a study published online...

Gastric cancer (GC) remains one of the most common and deadly cancers worldwide, even if its incidence has decreased over time, mainly because of prevention and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection[1]. Contrarily, the incidence of gastro-esophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinomas has increased, attributable to smoking and elevated body mass index (BMI) [2]. Much progress has been made in the management of advanced G/GEJ adenocarcinomas: the identification of molecular sub-groups benefiting from specific therapies (HER2 positive tumors, MSI/dMMR and EBV positive tumors, FGFR amplified tumors, etc)[3 –6], the intr...

Endoscopy DOI: 10.1055/a-1611-5091 1 ESGE recommends that, where there is a suspicion of eosinophilic esophagitis, at least six biopsies should be taken, two to four biopsies from the distal esophagus and two to four biopsies from the proximal esophagus, targeting areas with endoscopic mucosal abnormalities. Distal and proximal biopsies should be placed in separate containers.Strong recommendation, low quality of evidence. 2 ESGE recommends obtaining six biopsies, including from the base and edge of the esophageal ulcers, for histologic analysis in patients with suspected viral esophagitis.Strong recommendation, low ...

Tohoku J Exp Med. 2021;255(1):41-48. doi: 10.1620/tjem.255.41.ABSTRACTEffective Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication is a major public health concern; however, eradication failure rates with the standard triple therapy remain high. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness and tolerability of ranitidine bismuth citrate (RBC) pretreatment before standard triple therapy for H. pylori eradication. A prospective, randomized, controlled, and open-label clinical trial was conducted from June to December 2019. H. pylori eradication rate, safety, and tolerability were compared between the standard treatment group (esomepraz...

The human oral microbiota plays a vital role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis. To explore the relationship between Helicobacter pylori (Hp) and reflux esophagitis, we collected 86 saliva samples from reflux esophagitis patients (RE group) and 106 saliva samples from healthy people (C group) for a high-throughput sequencing comparison. No difference in alpha diversity was detected between the RE and the C groups, but beta diversity of the RE group was higher than the C group. Bacteroidetes was more abundant in the RE group, whereas Firmicutes was more abundant in the C group. The linear discriminant analysis effect size...

We present a 47 year-old man with a personal history of malignant melanoma (pT3bN2M0) radically removed, who was receiving adjuvant Nivolumab for prevention of recurrence. He was admitted to our service complaining of epigastric pain and hyporexia after receiving the 9º dose of Nivolumab. He underwent a preferential esophagogastroduodenoscopy which showed an intense inflammation limited to the stomach. Macroscopically all the mucosa was erythematosus, edematous, with friability and large ulcerations covered with fibrin. Multiple biopsies revealed inflammatory neutrophilic infiltration in the epithelium, cellular apopt...
