Determining Association of Fluid Balance with Acute Kidney Injury in Trauma Patients Admitted to the ICU

We read with great interest the recent article by Hatton and colleagues.1 They showed that a positive fluid balance at 48 hours after ICU admission was independently and incrementally associated with the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) in trauma patients. Their findings have potential implications, but we noted several issues in this study that were not well addressed.
