Investigation on the association between diabetes distress and productivity among patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus in the primary healthcare institutions
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial disease that affects different aspects of patients ’ lives clinically, psychologically and economically [1]. Many studies have highlighted the clinical consequences of uncontrolled T2DM [2] and the economic impacts of long-term management, specifically via the reporting of direct costs [3]. However, psychological impacts such as diabetes distress and T2DM’s impact on the indirect costs, specifically work and life productivity losses, are understated [4].
