Female Parliamentarians and the Distribution of National Happiness

This study contributes to this avenue of research by assessing the relationship between the share of women in parliament and happiness distribution. Using data from 109 nations, we find that countries with a greater share of women in parliament are associated with more equal distribution of subjective wellbeing within society. This result remains robust even when we control for a rich set of determinants of life satisfaction.
