Modified left subsuperior segmentectomy via 2-cm uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery

We describe our modified technique of performing simplified left subsuperior segmentectomy for a lung nodule, via 2-cm uniportal VATS. The uniportal approach was different from the traditional approach made by blunt separation into the thorax without electrocautery. Our modified technique minimizes damage to the intercostal nerves and muscles. We also simplified the subsuperior segmentectomy procedure according to the findings of three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography angiography and bronchography. Combining these two techniques achieves a new more minimally invasive method for subsuperior segmentectomy.
