Maternal Fats and Pregnancy Complications: Implications for Long-term Health
Pregnancy is a critical period during which the diet consumed by the mother can influence the health of both the mother and child. In recent years, there is a growing interest in examining factors which influence fetal growth as accumulating evidence suggests that adult non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have their origin in prenatal life and in early childhood [1,2]. Maternal obesity and pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and preeclampsia are early life risk factors associated with adverse birth outcomes such as impaired fetal growth and preterm birth [3,4].
