Minimal invasive approach in mitral valve surgery: Evolving method which requires higher experience and skills

Mitral valve disease is the one of the most frequent causes for heart failure and associated with poor prognosis and mortality. Surgical replacement or repair is still gold standard therapy despite the development of catheter-based techniques and different types of surgical approaches are being evolved [1]. Numerous minimally invasive techniques to lessen the invasiveness and have been gaining popularity in the last decades, moreover, the results are promising comparing to standard approaches. [2] In the last 20  years, many different minimal invasive methods have been described including partial sternotomy, parasternal incisions, right anterolateral mini-thoracotomy and totally endoscopic robotic approaches.
