Atherosclerotic plaque detected by transesophageal echocardiography is an independent predictor for all-cause mortality

In this study, we could demonstrate that more than mild plaque at any site of the thoracic aorta predicts all-cause mortality. Assessment of athero sclerotic lesions in all segments of the thoracic aorta should be part of every routine TEE examination.
