Non-surgical management of primary hyperparathyroidism in the aging population

Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrine disorder, with particularly high prevalence in the aging population. Postmenopausal women and men aged 50 and older are mostly affected by PHPT, with a significant increase in its incidence with advancing age [1,2]. Recent studies have reported an average increase in the mean age of newly diagnosed women and men from 50-55 years in the 1980s to 60-65 in the period 1998-2010 [3,4].
