In this study, mushroom residue was adding in lead-zinc slag to enhance the phytoremediation potential of P. fortunei, the effects of three treatments (lead-zinc slag, red soil, lead-zinc slag + 10% (m/m) mushroom residue) on the growth, physiology and microstructure of P. fortunei were determined. The results showed that the addition of mushroom residue increased the biomass, plant height and chlorophyll concentration of P. fortunei, indicating that the addition of mushroom residue can facilitate the growth of P. fortunei. Moreover, the proportions of oxalate-Pb forms and phosphate-Zn were do...

This study aimed to investigate how a unilateral high-grade tear caused overdistension of LAM and whether tear positions affect the degree of distension. Methods A total of 209 women were screened by translabial ultrasonography. Then, 18 nulliparous women with an intact LAM and 26 postpartum women with unilateral levator ani defects were recruited. The anteroposterior diameter (AP), coronal diameter (LR), and hiatal area (HA) of the minimum levator hiatus were recorded and compared for assessing the distensibility. All 44 subjects underwent magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis of levator ani defect and detection...

In this study, We report on the use of fluorine 18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) scan examinations for detecting potential COVID-19 respiratory syndrome in asymptomatic left ventricular assist device (LVAD) recipients. Thus, extreme caution and thoughtful approaches should be taken for a timely detection in delicate LVAD populations, especially if patients are living in a high-density COVID-19-infected area, and the potential intention for LVAD treatment is bridge to transplantation.

Abstract It has been widely shown that biomaterial surface topography can modulate host immune response, but a fundamental understanding of how different topographies contribute to pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory responses is still lacking. To investigate the impact of surface topography on immune response, we undertook a systematic approach by analyzing immune response to eight grades of medical grade polyurethane of increasing surface roughness in three in vitro models of the human immune system. Polyurethane specimens were produced with defined roughness values by injection molding according to the VDI 34...

Effects of Cardiac Sympathetic Neurodegeneration and PPARγ Activation on Rhesus Macaque Whole Blood miRNA and mRNA Expression Profiles. Biomed Res Int. 2020;2020:9426204 Authors: Metzger JM, Lopez MS, Schmidt JK, Murphy ME, Vemuganti R, Emborg ME Abstract Degeneration of sympathetic innervation of the heart occurs in numerous diseases, including diabetes, idiopathic REM sleep disorder, and Parkinson's disease (PD). In PD, cardiac sympathetic denervation occurs in 80-90% of patients and can begin before the onset of motor symptoms. Today, there are no disease-modifying therapies for cardiac sympa...

Despite its frequency in Mexico, research on migrant kidnapping is scant. We estimate that up to 250,000 migrants may have been kidnapped between 2006 and 2018. Even less is known about women as perpetrators in kidnapping operations. Moreover, in Mexico, r...

ConclusionCombined laparoscopic pouch resizing and distalization are safe and can lead to adequate weight loss. This technique allows the combination of an added restriction and malabsorption to the previous RYGB and could lead to an improved weight loss.

CONCLUSIONS: In this first study to address optimisation of CBCT imaging of root canal anatomy, a similar threshold dose for both scanners was identified for M1Ms with simple-moderate MB2 canal complexity. Increasing dose to enhance visualisation of more complex canal anatomy was ineffective. Selection of standard protocols (while avoiding lower kV/mA protocols) instead of high-resolution scans was a practical means of reducing patient dose. CNR is not a transferable measure of image quality. PMID: 32464075 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
