Impact of high on-treatment platelet reactivity after angioplasty in patients with peripheral arterial disease.

Conclusion: In this small exploratory study, HTPR was frequent in PAD patients. Furthermore, the results are suggestive that MALE might be associated with dual HTPR. This leads to the hypothesis that optimized antithrombotic regimens post percutaneous transluminal angioplasty should be tested in clinical trials. PMID: 32252582 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: The findings indicate that gingivitis negatively impacts the adolescents ’ OHRQoL. Moreover, gender, maternal schooling and household income were also associated with OHRQoL.RESUMO: Introdu ção: Qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal (QVRSB) é afetada por diferentes condições clínicas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o impacto da gengivite na QVRSB de adolescentes. Authors: Holm A, Swahn E, Lawesson SS, Gustafsson KM, Janzon M, Jonasson L, Lindahl TL, Alfredsson J Abstract )Several earlier studies have reported increased risk of bleeding in women with myocardial infarction, (MI) compared to men. The reasons for the observed difference are incompletely understood, but one suggested explanation has been excess dosing of antithrombotic drugs in women. The aim of this prospective observational study was to assess sex differences in platelet activity in patients treated with three different platelet inhibitors. We recruited 125 patients (37 women and 88 men) with MI, scheduled for...

Authors: Mookerjee S, Foster HR, Waller AK, Ghevaert CJ Abstract Platelet transfusions are given to patients in hospital who have a low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia) either because of major bleeding (following trauma or surgery) or because the bone marrow production of platelets is impaired often due to chemotherapy, infiltration with malignant cells, fibrosis or genetic disorders. We are currently entirely reliant on blood donors as a source of platelets in transfusion medicine. However, the demand for platelets continues to rise, driven by an aging population, advances in medical procedures and ever mor...

Authors: Okay G, Bolukcu S, Durdu B, Gultepe BS, Tuncay İ, Koc MM Abstract We sought to characterize the causative pathogens of prosthetic joint infections (PJIs), evaluate the trends in microbial etiologies, and identify potential risk factors for PJI. This was a retrospective study analyzing 70 patients with PJI following 3,253 total joint arthroplasties between 2011 and 2017. Staphylococci were the most common cause of infection (52.9%). There was a significant trend in the percentage of carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacilli (GNB) (increased to 66.7% in 2016 from 0.0% in 2011) (p=0.021). GNB and polymicrob...
