Conclusions: Excellent accuracy was found for types 1A, 1B, and 3C deformities (ends of spectrum). There was more variation among surgeons in differentiating between one-column (types 2A and 2B) and two-column (types 3A and 3B) deficiencies, as surgeons often failed to recognize the radiological signs of posterior column failure. This failure to identify column deficiencies can potentially alter kyphosis management. There was excellent consensus among surgeons in the recommendation of type 2 osteotomy; however, some variation was observed in their choice for other osteotomies. Authors: Bund L, Tricard T, Alexis W, Schneider L, Karger C, Gicquel P Abstract Closed reduction and percutaneous osteosynthesis is an alternative to the open procedure for articular fractures of distal tibia of children. 38 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The measured parameters were : the score of Gleizes and the discrepancies between preoperative radiographic and CT scan measurements and postoperative radiographs. A significant correlation was found between the gap and the step-off in preoperative radiographic and CT scan. A significant decrease of the gap and step-off displacement was noticed after surg...

Authors: Wautier D, Ftaïta S, Thienpont E Abstract Aseptic loosening of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) components is one of the frequent reasons for early revision together with infection and instability. Aseptic loosening is usually preceded by the observation of radiolucent lines (RLL) on radiographs. Radiolucent lines have conventionally been considered a sign of osteolysis due to particles disease of either polyethylene or cement wear. However, RLL can be observed quite early after TKA, way before wear and osteolysis can even occur. Immediate postoperative RLL are secondary to surgical technique with either...

Authors: Van der Wal WA, Van Gennip S, Heesterbeek PJ, Busch VJ, Wymenga AB Abstract The goal of this study was to present the results of an anatomical superficial medial collateral ligament (sMCL) reconstruction combined with reefing of the posteromedial capsule in a series of 10 patients with symptomatic valgus instability complaints in combined injuries of the knee. All patients under- went an sMCL reconstruction with reefing of the posteromedial capsule. If cruciate ligament insuf- ficiency was present, this was reconstructed as well. Pre- and postoperatively, multiple subjective knee outcome scores were obtain...

We report a new technique to perform THA in high congenital dislocations. Between 2013 and 2015, 3 consecutive patients (4 hips) with severe hip pain and Crowe III hip dysplasia were treated. Surgeries were performed on a standard table using the DAA and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring. At final follow-up (mean 24 months, range 15-43), all 3 patients reported excellent pain relief and significant improvement in activities of daily living. Radiographs showed the components to be solidly fixed in satisfactory position. Average postoperative leg lengthening was 24 mm (range 20-36). None of the patients experience...

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of high viscosity bone cement in the percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) for treatment of single-level osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Eighty patients were enrolled in this study. All patients were received PVP, and they were divided into 2 groups according to the viscosity of bone cement, either high viscosity bone cement (HV group) or low viscosity cement (LV group). Oswestry Disability Index questionnaire and visual analog scale as clinical assessments were quantified. The operative time and injected bone cement volume were recorded. The anterior vertebral height (AVH) an...

Rationale: Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is an uncommon type of non-small cell lung cancer, exhibiting aggressive behavior and resistance to the conventional chemoradiotherapy. To date, the optimal treatment for PSC has not been elucidated. Patient concerns: Three male patients including a 69-year-old smoker (Case 1), a 45-year-old non-smoker (Case 2), and a 69-year-old smoker (Case 3) were admitted because of cough, back pain, and loss of body weight respectively. Diagnoses: Radiographical examinations in these patients showed bulky intrathoracic lesions, which were pathologically diagnosed as PSC staging ...
