Authors: Xu J, Zhang M, Turk EA, Zhang L, Grant E, Ying K, Golland P, Adalsteinsson E Abstract The performance and diagnostic utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in pregnancy is fundamentally constrained by fetal motion. Motion of the fetus, which is unpredictable and rapid on the scale of conventional imaging times, limits the set of viable acquisition techniques to single-shot imaging with severe compromises in signal-to-noise ratio and diagnostic contrast, and frequently results in unacceptable image quality. Surprisingly little is known about the characteristics of fetal motion during MRI and here we pr...

I was a premed many years ago. I got a masters in molecular biology, was accepted to a school and then found out I was pregnant. This predates MomMd. I was given a year off, but I stupidly did not go back. I taugh bio at a university and took more courses. I had the chance to apply again and was in full-time MCAT study mode. Then I was diagnosed with cancer. Two years later, I was better. I felt med school was over. I had wanted to be a psychiatrist so badly. I decided to get a PhD in... az RZ Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of two sub-periods of the calving season and two cow maturity stages on the efficiency of beef cows and their calves. A total of 159 cow-calf pairs were divided by calving time (early or late) within the calving season and maturity stage (young or adult). Calves were weaned at 42 or 63 days after birth and evaluated until 210 days of age. Cows and calves had their development examined based on their weight and body condition score at calving, at weaning, and at 210 days. Reproductive performance was evaluated on the basis of time to become pregnant...

We report a 34-year-old woman with ileal Crohn's disease diagnosed 14 years ago, with the development of extensive, exudative scalp lesions after adalimumab therapy. Biopsies from skin lesions were compatible with vulgar psoriasis. The patient reports no personal or family history of psoriasis. Due to persistence and further worsening of skin lesions, paradoxical etiology to adalimumab was presumed and the drug was stopped with complete resolution of skin lesions and intestinal disease in remission under methotrexate. Due to pregnancy-planification methotrexate was stopped and, 8 months-after, systemic steroid-therapy was ...

Authors: Anagnostouli M, Markoglou N, Chrousos G Abstract Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a multifactorial, chronic, immune-mediated, and neurodegenerative disease, having a well-known hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction. Several hormones have a great impact in the immune dysregulation, psychology, and cognitive status of patients with MS, as also in the fertility and response to treatment. In this comprehensive review, as an introduction, we mention basic data concerning MS: epidemiology, genetics, immunogenetics, epigenetics, pathophysiology, and neuroimmunology. Hormonal components of the disease ca...

This study was a retrospective analysis of 79 pregnant women with PAH. We collected data on maternal, obstetrical, and neonatal outcomes. The mean age of the parturient women with mild and severe PAH was 26.6 ± 5.7 and 26.0 ± 4.9 years, respectively, and the mean systolic pulmonary arterial pressure of the 2 groups was 43.8 ± 4.2 mmHg and 76.7 ± 15.6 mmHg, respectively. Of the 79 patients, 43 (54.4%) had severe PAH and 36 (45.6%) had mild PAH. The gestational weeks were significantly shorter and the rate of fetal death was higher in the severe PAH group than in the mild PAH group...

We examined background differences, including BMI at the delivery, gestational age, and fetal birth weight between the cases with and without the adequate initial nerve block height less than the sixth thoracic vertebral level (Th6) after the spinal dose administration. The data demonstrated advanced maternal age pregnancy (median 35.5 years) and normal BMI (median 24.7) at the delivery in the population. The patients with the inadequate initial nerve block height immediately after the spinal dose administration documented significantly lower block height compared with those with adequate block height (Th8 [n = 55] vs...
