High-Flow Vascular Malformations in Children

Semin Neurol DOI: 10.1055/s-0040-1708869Children can have a variety of intracranial vascular anomalies ranging from small and incidental with no clinical consequences to complex lesions that can cause substantial neurologic deficits, heart failure, or profoundly affect development. In contrast to high-flow lesions with direct arterial-to-venous shunts, low-flow lesions such as cavernous malformations are associated with a lower likelihood of substantial hemorrhage, and a more benign course. Management of vascular anomalies in children has to incorporate an understanding of how treatment strategies may affect the normal development of the central nervous system. Conclusion: BMI has a nonlinear relationship with 1-year unplanned readmission in patients with myocardial infarction. The 1-year unplanned readmission rate of overweight patients (BMI > 29.3 kg/m2) has increased significantly. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that splenectomy attenuates ICH-induced neurological and cognitive impairment as well as ICH-induced cardiac dysfunction in mice. Inflammatory cell infiltration into heart and immune responses mediated by the spleen may contribute to ICH-induce acute and chronic cardiac dysfunction and pathological cardiac remodeling. This study shows that CA are released from periventricular and subpial regions to the cerebrospinal fluid and are present in the cervical lymph nodes, into which cerebrospinal fluid drains through the meningeal lymphatic system.
