CONCLUSIONS: The presence of high grade RLS is associated with reduced vasodilatory CVMR in migraineurs. Further decrease of CVMR of PCA upon aerogenic microemboli passage may support the mechanism of 'facilitation with subclinical cerebral ischemia caused by microembolism', hypothesis explaining the onset of migraine. CONCLUSIONS: SARS-Cov-2 has emerged as a worldwide threat, currently affecting 170 countries and territories across the globe. There is still much to be understood regarding SARS-CoV-2 about its virology, epidemiology and clinical management strategies; this knowledge will be essential to both manage the current pandemic and to conceive comprehensive measures to prevent such outbreaks in the future. CONCLUSIONS: Valproate medications were more effective than placebo in migraine prevention, with statistically significant differences. Both valproate and the other active comparators were well-tolerated, and no significant difference was noted in efficacy and safety for the prophylaxis of migraine. Authors: Meregildo ED Abstract Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is a global health problem. In more developed countries, NCC is mainly a disease affecting immigrants. In developing countries, NCC is the most common parasitic disease of the nervous system and the main cause of acquired epilepsy. NCC is also an unrecognized cause of strokes and could account for 4%-12% of strokes. Here, I report a case of a 58-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department (ED) with severe headache, vomiting, and sudden loss of consciousness. Multiple NCC and Fisher grade 4 aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) were demonstrated...

Authors: Pagani G, Zanchetta N, Galimberti L, Oreni L, Passerini S, Giacomelli A, Cordier L, Gismondo MR, Rizzardini G, Galli M, Antinori S Abstract Dengue Fever (DF), transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, is the most common arthropod-borne infection, it is almost ubiquitous in tropical and subtropical areas with an estimate of 360 million infections per year. A competent vector (A. albopictus) is present in most of Southern Europe and is endemic in Italy. We conducted a 16-year retrospective study of probable/confirmed dengue fever observed at the Department of Infectious Diseases of Luigi Sacco Hospital in Milan, Ital...

AbstractMigraine is a common brain disorder with a large genetic component. Of the two main migraine types, migraine with aura and migraine without aura, the genetic underpinning in the former is least understood. Given the evidence from epidemiological studies in cohorts and families that the genetic contribution is highest in migraine with aura, this seems paradoxical. Various genetic approaches have been applied to identify genetic factors that confer risk for migraine. Initially, so-called candidate gene associations studies (CGAS) have been performed that test DNA variants in genes prioritized based on presumed a prio...

elletti Post-traumatic headache (PTH) may be considered a secondary headache, which is linked to severe disability and psychosocial impairment. Interestingly, nearly 30% of subjects with persistent post-traumatic headache (PPTH) also suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although existing studies demonstrated the existence of common pathophysiological characteristics in subjects with migraine and PPTH, the differences and similarities between these complex diseases are currently poorly understood and are yet to be comprehensively elucidated. Thus, the present review aimed to systematically investigate the ...

AbstractGalcanezumab (Emgality®) is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), thereby inhibiting its physiological activity, with CGRP playing a key role in the pathophysiology of migraine and headache disorders. In pivotal phase 3 trials, recommended dosages of subcutaneous galcanezumab once monthly were significantly more effective than placebo as preventive therapy in adults with episodic (EVOLVE-1 and -2; over 6  months) or chronic (REGAIN; over 3 months) migraine (±  aura), including in patients who had failed several prior preventive migraine d...
