Primary hyperparathyroidism and pancreatitis

ConclusionsWe conclude that pancreatitis can be the only presenting complaint of PHPT. Our study highlights the importance of fully investigating for PHPT in any pancreatitis patient with high normal or raised serum calcium level, especially in the absence of other common causes of pancreatitis.

Conclusions: 60% of patients with MDD and/or AAD had at least one additional NCCD, which significantly increased the economic and humanistic burden. These findings are important for payers and clinicians in making treatment decisions. These results underscore the need for development of multi-pronged interventions which aim to improve quality of life and reduce activity limitations among patients with mental health disorders and NCCDs. Authors: Verdelli C, Tavanti GS, Corbetta S Abstract Parathyroid tumors are the second most common endocrine neoplasia after thyroid neoplasia. They are mostly associated with impaired parathormone (PTH) synthesis and release determining the metabolic and clinical condition of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). PHPT is the third most prevalent endocrine disorder, mainly affecting postmenopausal women. Parathyroid benign tumors, both adenomas of a single gland or hyperplasia involving all the glands, are the main histotypes, occurring in more than 95% of PHPT cases. The differential diagnosis between benign and mal...

DISCUSSION: Sleep deprivation etiologies are multifactorial and have several effects on ICU patients. Sleep protocol and staff training should be introduced to reduce unnecessary interventions by ICU staff. Tele-ICU monitoring can also be introduced to reduce unnecessary interventions where clinicians can monitor patients remotely and therefore enhance sleep in the ICU. During their stay in the ICU, patients can be instructed to wear earplugs and also have aromatherapy massage to reduce stress and enhance sleep quality. More research on the physical pain and the psychological factors using objective methods should be condu...

CONCLUSION AND IMPORTANCE: We present the second published case worldwide about anterior uveitis secondary to intracameral moxifloxacin, which may rarely cause hypertensive uveitis that may be confused with viral uveitis. This provides evidence on the importance of postoperative follow-up by the surgeon for an early referral and treatment of these cases. PMID: 32469689 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractFor LGBTQ  + individuals, coming out can be an experience of marked adversity. Indeed, research has shown that the experience can trigger psychological ill-health (e.g. depression and anxiety) as well as posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) such as sleep disturbance, somatic symptoms and cognitive distress. While studies have investigated the pain associated with coming out, much less is known about the potential for this life event to lead to growth. The aim of the current study, therefore, was to explore levels of posttraumatic stressand the presence of posttraumatic growth (PTG) in LGBTQ  + adults ...
