Alvimopan is Associated with a Reduction in Length of Stay and Hospital Costs for Patients Undergoing Radical Cystectomy

To evaluate the impact of alvimopan in patient undergoing radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer. We hypothesize that alvimopan can decrease cost for RC by reducing length of stay (LOS).

On April 20, the president calls a press conference to announce a breakthrough in the fight against COVID-19. It’s a new use for an old malaria treatment, he says, one that is seeing miraculous results among the country’s most ill patients. It’s so safe that even schoolchildren could take it. In fact, he urges them to do so daily, as a preventative. He admits that he, too, is taking the medicine. No, this is not the President of the United States touting an unproven remedy for a virus that has infected nearly 5 million people worldwide. It is Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina, who is just as wi...

Nature Reviews Urology, Published online: 22 May 2020; doi:10.1038/s41585-020-0339-3Bladder cancer outcomes differ between men and women. Elucidating this sexual dimorphism, genomic analyses found differing molecular subtype distributions and androgen response activities in muscle-invasive bladder cancer in men and women. Together with knowledge of cancer driver genes, biomarkers and clinical characteristics, these findings will hopefully lead to sex-based personalized research and management of bladder cancer.

In this study, we have investigated the relationship between circRNA expression and tumor grade in a cohort of 58, mostly non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients. From 4571 circRNAs detected, we identified 157 that were significantly differentially expressed between tumor grades relative to the linear transcript. We demonstrated that such grade-related differences can be identified in an independent cohort, and that a large fraction of circRNAs can be, in principle, detected in urine. The differentially expressed circRNAs cluster into subgroups according to their co-expression, subgroups which are enriched for DNA repa...

Conclusions: Although systemic intra-venous application of ICG and negative-staining of the rectum including the mesorectum is much easier compared to laparoscopic inter-arterial perfusion through IMA, image results of selevtive IMA-perfusion appear in sharper discrimination of the several layers. Further investigation should focus on simplifying this technique. PMID: 32425093 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
