Etiology and impact on outcomes of polycystic kidney disease in abdominal aortic aneurysm

AbstractPurposeWe investigated the etiology and impact on outcomes of polycystic kidney disease in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm.MethodsEight-hundred patients who underwent open (n = 603) or endovascular aortic repair (n = 197) were divided into three groups: no cyst (n = 204), non-polycystic kidney (n = 503), and polycystic kidney (≥ 5 cysts in the bilateral kidneys,n = 93). The characteristics and outcomes were compared among the groups.ResultsIn the polycystic kidney group, the age was increased and the proportions of patients with male sex, hypertension, and estimated glomerular filtration rate

Abstract PURPOSE: To evaluate the in vivo response of photobiomodulation therapy associated with norbixin-based poly(hydroxybutyrate) membrane (PHB) in tenotomized calcaneal tendon. METHODS: Thirty rats were randomly allocated to six groups (n=5 each): LED groups (L1, L2 and L3) and membrane + LED groups (ML1, ML2 and ML3). The right calcaneal tendons of all animals were sectioned transversely and were irradiated with LED daily, one hour after surgery every 24 hours, until the day of euthanasia. At the end of the experiments the tendons were removed for histological analysis. RESULTS: The histological an...

Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in the general population. In western countries with aging populations, atrial fibrillation poses a significant health concern, as it is associated with a high risk of thromboembolism, stroke, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction. Thrombi are generated in the left atrial appendage, and subsequent embolism into the cerebral circulation is a major cause of ischemic stroke. Therefore, patients have a lifetime risk of stroke, and those at high risk, defined as a CHA2DS2-VASc2 (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age>75 years, diabetes mel...

For this observational, retrospective and cross-sectional study, the epidemiological data records were collected from the Hospitals and the Ministry of Health of Bolivia, obtaining the clinical and epidemiological data of the COVID-19 cases that were laboratory-diagnosed during March 2-29,...

Various endogenous and exogenous agents cause DNA damage, including apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) sites. Due to their cytotoxic effects, AP sites are usually cleaved by AP endonuclease through the base excision repair (BER) pathway. Deinococcus radiodurans, an extraordinary radiation-resistant bacterium, is known as an ideal model organism for elucidating DNA repair processes. Here, we have investigated a unique AP endonuclease (DrXth) from D. radiodurans and found that it possesses AP endonuclease, 3′-phosphodiesterase, 3′-phosphatase, and 3′–5′ exonuclease but has no nucleotide incision repair ...
