ConclusionsHigh VWF levels predict poor outcome in rodenticide-induced hepatotoxicity. VWF reduction may be useful in such patients.

AbstractBackgroundThe ratio of von Willebrand Factor to platelets (VITRO) reflects the severity of fibrosis and portal hypertension and might thus hold prognostic value.MethodsPatients with compensated cirrhosis were recruited. VITRO, Child –Pugh score (CPS) and MELD were determined at study entry. Hepatic decompensation was defined as variceal bleeding, ascites or hepatic encephalopathy. Liver transplantation and death were recorded.ResultsOne hundred and ninety-four patients with compensated cirrhosis (CPS-A 89%, B 11%; 56% male; median age 56  years; 50% with varices) were included. During a median follow-up ...

Conclusions. VWF on isolated Hc causes, in contact with blood, adhesion of platelets, which thereby forms an ideal surface for coagulation. This phenomenon needs to be considered in hepatocyte-based reconstitution therapy and possibly even in other settings of cell transplantation.

te; J Abstract The relationship between the gut flora and various diseases (obesity, diabetes mellitus, metabolic disorders, allergic and autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, liver failure, infections, certain neuropsychiatric disorders, tumors) has been highlighted in recent years. Depletion of microbiotics inhibits bone marrow healing. Infections and their antibiotic treatment may also affect hematopoiesis. Intestinal flora may also affect the severity of the graft-versus-host disease and may also play a role in the pathogenesis of immunthrombocytopenia through the T-regulator cells. The study summa...

In this study, we report the age-associated differences between fetal MSC (fMSC) populations and MSCs isolated from elderly donors with respect to their transcriptomes. We successfully reprogrammed fMSCs (55 days post conception) and adult MSC (aMSC; 60-74 years) to iPSCs and, subsequently, generated the corresponding iMSCs. In addition, iMSCs were also derived from ESCs. The iMSCs were similar although not identical to primary MSCs. We unraveled a putative rejuvenation and aging gene expression signature. We show that iMSCs irrespective of donor age and cell type re-acquired a similar secretome to that of th...

CONCLUSIONS: after transplantation, hemophilia A cure and improved bleeding phenotype of type-3 vWD reduced morbidity and mortality. However, potential graft reinfection with HCV and relapsing HCC cast a shadow over these optimum results. PMID: 29931985 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In conclusion, combined liver‐kidney NMP can better protect DCD livers from warm ischemia and reperfusion injury probably by maintaining the stability of the internal environment and by abolishing oxidative stress injury. Liver Transplantation 24 67–79 2018 AASLD.

This study aimed to estimate associations between combined measurements of BMI and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) with mortality and incident coronary artery disease (CAD). This study followed 130,473 UK Biobank participants aged 60-69 years (baseline 2006-2010) for 8.3 years (n = 2974 deaths). Current smokers and individuals with recent or disease-associated (e.g., from dementia, heart failure, or cancer) weight loss were excluded, yielding a "healthier agers" group. Ignoring WHR, the risk of mortality for overweight subjects was similar to that for normal-weight subjects. However, among normal-weight subjects...
