Doctors of the World – Coronoavirus Response

Things are changing on a daily basis and we at Doctors of the World are constantly reviewing our work programme doing everything we can to respond.  We must ensure those in need can access the support they need right now. Over the last week our team have answered calls and helped many people affected by Covid-19. What we’ve already been able to do with everyone’s support. We’re proud of how our volunteers and staff have risen to the challenge of Coronavirus. These are just some of things we’ve been able to do over the last couple of weeks: Translated the official NHS guidance into 36 different languages (now downloaded over 17,000 times). Begun video translations of the guidance for those with poor literacy. Moved our advice line from an office to home workers, to ensure continuation of service. Sent our mobile clinic to help people living on the streets of London – We are providing triage and medical consultations. Provide remote medical consultations for people who don’t have a GP. On our calls last week, our volunteers spoke with a woman in need of palliative care who has COVID-19 but isn’t registered with a GP and so was being denied help. We’ve been co-ordinating with relevant parties to get the woman the care she desperately needs.  There are many others, like her, who we need to support at this time.
