Hepatitis A Outbreak with the Concurrence of Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Poona Infection in Children of Urban Vellore, South India. Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2020 Mar 30;: Authors: Srinivasan M, Sindhu KN, Kumar SJ, Abraham P, Anandan S, Balaji V, Mohan VR, Kang G, John J Abstract We investigated an outbreak of hepatitis A infection among children in an urban settlement of Vellore, South India. A total of 58 cases of jaundice were reported between April and August 2019. Sera from children who presented with jaundice were tested for hepatitis A virus (HAV) IgM. HAV IgM was positive in 18 (94.7%) of the 19 cases tested. These children also received a blood culture at the same time, as a part of the ongoing Surveillance for Enteric Fever in India (SEFI). Blood cultures from three children with confirmed hepatitis A infection grew Salmonella sp.: two with Salmonella Typhi and one with Salmonella Poona. Salmonella Poona is being reported for the first time from India. The overall hospitalization rate during the outbreak was 21%. Outbreaks of hepatitis A continue to occur with substantial morbidity in children from endemic settings, with notable emergence of other concurrent enteric infections, thereby warranting continued surveillance. ConclusionsThe findings in this study update and expand current understanding of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody positivity in patients with both infective endocarditis and hepatitis B virus. Treatment (including surgery, antibiotics, corticosteroids and/or cyclophosphamide, antiviral agents, and even plasma exchange) is challenging when several diseases are combined. Renal biopsy is suggested if the patient ’s condition allows. Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody testing should be repeated after therapy, because some cases might require more aggressive treatment.
In this study, we summarized the current findings on how CH25H and 25HC play multiple roles to modulate cholesterol metabolism, inflammation, immunity, and antiviral infections. Overall, 25HC should be further studied as a potential therapeutic agent to control emerging infectious diseases in the future.

CONCLUSIONS: The COMBIND intervention was easily integrated into India's existing PMTCT programme and improved early uptake of two PMTCT components that require self-motivated health-seeking behaviour, thus providing preliminary evidence to support COMBIND as a potentially scalable PMTCT strategy. Further study would identify modifications needed to optimize other PMTCT outcomes. PMID: 32618115 [PubMed - in process]
An infant in intensive care at the Holy Family Hospital in New Delhi. Credit: Holy Family Hospital.By Nachiket MorBANGALORE, India, Jul 5 2020 (IPS) Universal healthcare (UHC) is an important global goal because of its close links to poverty reduction and enhancement of the growth potential of countries. While several countries can now be said to be well on their way towards achieving this goal, several others, most notably large ones such as India and Nigeria, are decidedly not. Though there are a number of reasons for this, perhaps the most important one has been the position taken by the international development commun...
