Topiramate: A novel protective agent against ischemia reperfusion-induced oxidative injury after testicular torsion/detorsion

Testicular torsion is a common urologic emergency and one of the causes of genital injury in males. Hence, early diagnosis and treatment are necessary to prevent testicular damage and infertility. It has been proved that topiramate (TPM) a medication used to treat epilepsy and prevent migraines has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects. Therefore, this study was designed to determine the influence of TPM on ischemia/reperfusion injury following testicular torsion/detorsion (T/D). Thirty-six male Wistar rats were divided into three groups (n  = 12 for each group) including sham operated, T/D + vehicle, T/D + TPM(100 mg/kg, 30 min before detorsion).
