Newly diagnosed iron deficiency anemia and subsequent autoimmune disease: a matched cohort study in Taiwan.
Conclusions: IDA significantly increases autoimmune disease risk, particularly in female patients and patients with certain comorbidities. Clinicians should conduct further clinical evaluations and laboratory tests of autoimmune disease in patients with IDA.Plain Language Summary: Little is known about the relationship between iron deficiency and autoimmune disease. By using a national-level database in Taiwan, we noted a meaningful association between iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and later autoimmune disease development. Our study extends the known disease range and recommends that physicians be alert for the occurrence of autoimmune disease after an IDA diagnosis. The subgroup analysis indicated that, among patients with IDA, female patients and patients with the simultaneous chronic diseases of allergic rhinitis, urticaria, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hyperlipidemia, or hypertension had a significantly higher risk of autoimmune disease. The risk of autoimmune disease was considerably higher within the 2 years after an IDA diagnosis. PMID: 32223346 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionThe proposed multiparametric MRI-based SLICs+MTh method performs noninvasive assessment of NACT response in osteosarcoma that may improve cancer treatment monitoring, planning, and overall prognosis.Key Points• The simple linear iterative clustering supervoxels and Otsu multithresholding-based technique (SLICs+MTh) successfully estimates the proportion of necrosis, viable tumor, and edema in osteosarcoma in the course of chemotherapy.• The proposed technique is noninvasive and uses multiparametric MRI to measure necrosis as an indication of anticancer treatment response.• SLICs+MTh-based necrosis w...

Psychologists say anxiety and uncertainty prompt irrational decisions — like turning down a transplant when an organ becomes available.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE may seem harmless but the condition can be a precursor to heart disease so it is important to keep it in check. Nuts have been shown to have a moderating effect on blood pressure and one nut comes out on top.

Authors: Urban AE, Cubała WJ Abstract Eugeroics are a relatively new class of wakefulness-promoting agents. Thegroup includes adrafinil, modafinil and armodafinil. Modafinil is the most widely used and the best studied agent. Indications for the use of modafinil include the treatment of narcolepsy, shift-work sleep disorders and excessive daytime sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea. Many studies show the utility of modafinil and armodafinil in the treatment of depression - both in monotherapy andas potentiation therapy if needed. Modafinil has proven to be effective in the treatment of residual symp...
