Effect of High-Intensity Interval Training in De Novo Heart Transplant Recipients - 3-year Results from the HITTS Randomized Controlled Trial
The HITTS study (High -intensity Interval Training in de novo Heart Transplant Recipients in Scandinavia) is a randomized controlled trial designed to assess the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIT) versus moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) on exercise capacity in de novo heart transplant recipients. The primary endpoint was the change in oxygen consumption (VO2peak) at the end of the intervention period, which began 3 months after heart transplantation (HTx). After the 9-month long intervention period, we reported a between-group difference in VO2peak of 1.8 ml/kg/min in favor of HIT (p = 0.04).We found that HIT was safe, well tolerated and efficient.
