Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy or Radiotherapy Alone in Muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer: Retrospective Review of Treatment and Outcome in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

Purpose: Synchronous chemotherapy with mitomycin C and 5-FU with radiotherapy may have an additional benefit over radiotherapy alone [1]. We looked into the rate of recurrence and median overall survival between these two groups of patients.

AbstractPurposeTo test the effect of perioperative chemotherapy (CHT) on overall mortality (OM) and cancer-specific mortality (CSM) in patients with locally advanced or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder (SCC UB).MethodsWithin the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database (1988 –2016), we identified 1,018 SCC UB patients (664 T3 –4aN0M0, 197 TanyN1 –3M0 and 156 T4bN0 –3 or M1), who underwent radical cystectomy with or without perioperative chemotherapy administration. Inverse probability of treatment-weighting (IPTW), Kaplan –Meier plots and Cox-regression mode...

The future course of this pandemic is still an enigma, but health care services are expected to resume soon in a phased manner. This might be a long drawn process and we need to have policies in place, to be able to fight both, the SARS-CoV-2 virus and cancer, simultaneously, and emerge triumphan...

Authors: Han H, Yu F, Wu C, Dai L, Ruan Y, Cao Y, He J Abstract OBJECTIVE: To explore the trends and utilization of palliative care (PC) service among inpatients with metastatic bladder cancer (MBC). METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional analysis was performed using data from the 2003 to 2014 National Inpatient Sample. Palliative care was identified through International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision code V66.7. Demographics, comorbidities, hospital characteristics, tumor-related, and treatment-related factors were compared between patients with and without PC. Multivariable logistic regression...

(The Mount Sinai Hospital / Mount Sinai School of Medicine) A clinical trial led by Mount Sinai researchers has showed for the first time that combining chemotherapy and immunotherapy can slow down metastatic bladder cancer. The trial also showed that immunotherapy alone may be an option for a subset of patients with metastatic bladder cancer if their tumor expresses a high level of a protein called PD-L1 according to the study, published in The Lancet in May.

In this study, a retrospective analysis of 259 muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients from two independent clinic centers was conducted to explore the prognostic merit of CCR8+Tregs via immunohistochemistry. Eighty-three fresh MIBC samples and data from the Cancer Genome Atlas were used to evaluate the proportion and function of immune cells via flow cytometry, ex vivo intervention experiments and bioinformatics analysis. It was found that the CCR8 expression by intratumoral Tregs maintained the stability and potentiated their suppressive function by upregulating the expression of transcript factors FOXO1 and c-MAF...

CONCLUSION: These preliminary data indicate the feasibility of nanocurcumin supplementation as a complementary therapy in MIBC patients and support further larger studies. Moreover, a substantial translational insight to fill the gap between the experiment and clinical practice in the field is provided. PMID: 32350847 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
