Renal denervation effective in patients with untreated hypertension

(American College of Cardiology) Three months after undergoing renal denervation (RDN) -- a procedure that delivers energy to overactive nerves leading to the kidney to decrease their activity -- patients with untreated high blood pressure had statistically significant reductions in average blood pressure over 24 hours compared with patients who underwent a sham procedure and experienced no major adverse effects, according to results from the SPYRAL-HTN OFF MED pivotal trial presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session Together with World Congress of Cardiology (ACC.20/WCC).
