Association between the Non-high-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol to High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio and the Risk of Coronary Artery Disease.

Conclusions: The findings of this study indicated that non-HDL-C/HDL-C plays an important role in the risk and progression of CAD. These findings need verification by further large-scale prospective studies. PMID: 32219140 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

An elderly woman had sudden ventricular fibrillation. She was unable to be defibrillated but was cannulated and placed on ECMO in our Emergency Department (ECLS - extracorporeal life support).  ECMO Flow was achieved after approximately 1 hour of high quality CPR.After good ECMO flow was established, she was successfully defibrillated. Here is her monitor rhythm:Notice the " Shark Fin " morphology in lead I monitor rhythm. Also notice that the arterial line mean arterial pressure is 63 mmHg, but there is no waveform (and SpO2 says " no pulse " ), as the flow is continuous on ECMO and the LV function a...

Abstract OBJECTIVES: Lower extremity peripheral artery disease develops mainly due to atherosclerosis and occurs as a result of the systemic atherosclerotic process. Increased triglyceride (TG) and decreased high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) values increase atherosclerosis risk. With regard to this information, TG/HDL-C ratio is used as the atherogenic index. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the role of TG/HDL-C ratio to predict the complexity of disease in patients with peripheral artery disease. METHODS: Patients who were diagnosed with peripheral artery disease and admitted to our cl...

ConclusionRetinal vein occlusions associated with theMTHFR C677T variant and protein S deficiency may signal impending systemic thromboembolic episodes and warrant aggressive preventative measures.

CONCLUSIONS: AD personnel represent a small minority of MTF STEMI diagnoses and present with lower risk cardiovascular profiles. AD personnel received standard STEMI management compared to national performance measures, and were deployment ineligible after STEMI diagnoses. Further studies are needed to definitively explore the appropriate military dispositions for members with STEMI diagnoses and acute coronary syndromes. This study aimed to identify the incidence of postcontrast acute kidney injury using baseline renal function when CTA and cerebral angiography were performed sequentially. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective observational study evaluated adults (18 years of age or older) with ischemic stroke who underwent CTA and cerebral angiography sequentially between 2010 and 2018. The incidence of postcontrast acute kidney injury was determined using the baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate. The value of the baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate at which the occurrence of postcontrast acute kidney injury increa...

Abstract Background: A sizeable proportion of patients have discordant low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C). Objectives: We assessed the relationship between discordance of LDL-C and non-HDL-C and coronary artery disease (CAD) severity. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the data of 574 consecutive patients who underwent coronary angiography. Fasting serum lipid profiles were recorded, SYNTAX and Gensini scores were calculated to establish CAD complexity and severity. We determined the medians for LDL-C and non-HDL-C to examine the discordance between LDL-C...

Abstract Bac Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death worldwide and most commonly develops as a result of atherosclerosis. ANGPTL8 is a secreted adipokine that regulates lipid metabolism and is associated with cardiometabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and CAD. However, the association between circulating ANGPTL8 levels and CAD is inconsistent among studies and the mechanism by which ANGPTL8 contributes to CAD development remains poorly understood. Here we sought to evaluate the relationship between ANGPTL8 levels and endothelial dysfunction and adipose tissue inflammation in CAD patien...

CONCLUSIONS: Eight in 10 ACS patients were dispensed a high-intensity statin at discharge, but only 36% received the guidelines-recommended dose of 80mg of atorvastatin. By one year, one in five patients discharged on a statin were not receiving it. There are opportunities to improve longer-term LDL-C reduction and clinical outcomes through dosage optimisation and improved medication maintenance. PMID: 32161419 [PubMed - in process]

METHODS: Male New Zealand white rabbits (n=26) were fed with a 1% high-cholesterol diet for 7 weeks followed by normal diet for 2 weeks. After balloon catheter injury, the rabbits were administered with the Dapagliflozin (1mg/kg/day) or control-medium ...
