Can concordance between actual care received and a pathway map be measured on a population level in Ontario? A pilot study.

Conclusions: Our method of measuring concordance was feasible on a population-based level, but future studies to validate it and to develop more sophisticated methods to measure concordance in larger cohorts and various disease sites are necessary. Measurement of clinical pathway concordance on a population-based level has the potential to be a useful tool for assessing system performance. PMID: 32218665 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Huang Y, Gu X, Ge K, Fu G, Chu J, Wei W Abstract Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy has been established as the standard treatment for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. However, the role of radiotherapy (RT) has not been fully confirmed in advanced colon cancer (LACC). We postulated that patients with pathological T4N2 locally advanced colon cancer would benefit more from RT. 6715 pT4N2M0 colon cancer patients were included in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The primary endpoints were 5-year overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Propensity score m...

z I, Martínez de Prado P, Porta I Balanyà R, Quintanar Verduguez T, Rodríguez-Lescure Á, Muñoz A Abstract BACKGROUND: The ever-growing complexity of cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT), with new antineoplastic drugs and anticoagulants, distinctive characteristics, and decisions with low levels of evidence, justifies this registry. METHOD: TESEO is a prospective registry promoted by the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology to which 34 centers contribute cases. It seeks to provide an epidemiological description of CAT in Spain. RESULTS: Participants (N=939) with CAT diagnos...

AbstractA 75-year-old woman was diagnosed with anemia during hospitalization for the treatment of right superior ophthalmic arteriovenous fistula. Colonoscopy revealed an entire circumference of type 2 tumor in the ascending colon. Computed tomography showed ascending colon wall thickening, a tumor with a maximum diameter of 32  mm on the right external iliac artery and multiple low-density nodules in the spleen. We performed right hemicolectomy with D3 lymph node dissection, splenectomy and right external iliac lymph node dissection. Histopathological finding revealed moderately-differentiated adenocarcinoma in ascen...

eland S, Blomhoff R Abstract BACKGROUND: Dosage of chemotherapy for colon cancer is currently based on the patient's body surface area. Several studies have identified an association between low fat-free mass and chemotherapy toxicity among patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. This has been less widely studied for localised disease. This review aims to summarise studies that have investigated the association between clinical signs of disease-related malnutrition (low body mass index, weight loss and low muscle mass) and tolerance of chemotherapy in patients with localised colon cancer. MATERIAL AND MET...

ConclusionThis model can be used to evaluate strategies for the allocation of adjuvant chemotherapy in stage II CC patients. In future studies, the model will be used to estimate population-level long-term health gain and cost-effectiveness of biomarker-based selection strategies.
