70. Ovarian Torsion: An Acute Presentation of Van Wyk and Grumbach Syndrome Secondary to Undiagnosed Hashimoto ’s Thyroiditis
Van Wyk and Grumbach syndrome is characterized by primary hypothyroidism, precocious puberty, delayed bone age and ovarian enlargement. This case demonstrates an unusual presentation of the disorder, with acute abdominal pain and ovarian torsion. Large bilateral multicystic ovaries presenting with torsion can be due to severe hypothyroidism, and hormonal causes should be considered in the differential diagnosis, permitting ovarian preservation.
