HPLC-MS/MS Analysis of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Its Combination with Red Ginseng Effect on Rat CYP450 Activities Using the Cocktail Approach.

HPLC-MS/MS Analysis of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Its Combination with Red Ginseng Effect on Rat CYP450 Activities Using the Cocktail Approach. Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2020;2020:8603934 Authors: Ma W, Wang W, Huang X, Yao G, Jia Q, Shen J, Ouyang H, Chang Y, He J Abstract Red ginseng is often combined with Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata to reduce alkaloids-related toxicity of the latter. Such herb-pairing also results in better therapeutic effect in heart failure, as compared to the singular use of either herb. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata and its combination with red ginseng on the activities of CYP450 enzymes in rats. A sensitive and reliable HPLC-MS/MS method was established and validated for the simultaneous determination of eight probe drugs, phenacetin (CYP1A2), tolbutamide (CYP2C9), omeprazole (CYP2C19), dextromethorphan (CYP2D6), dapsone (CYP3A4), 7-hydroxycoumarin (CYP2A6), bupropion (CYP2B6), and amodiaquine (CYP2C8), in rat plasma using diazepam as internal standard (IS). The chromatographic separation was performed on a Waters XBridge™ C18 column (2.1 mm × 100 mm, 3.5 μm) using a gradient elution with the mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and water (containing 0.1% formic acid) at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min. The method was successfully applied in evaluating the effect of Aconiti Lateralis Ra...

Abstract By April 28th 2020, the global number of people that were viciously infected with the newfound novel corona virus (COVID-19) stood at a staggering 3 077 133 cases, as per the confirmed data released by the WHO. It has been reported that women from the Chinese Han population are associated with essential hypertension due to their relation with the 5 SNPs, namely, rs1514283, rs4646155, rs4646176, rs2285666, and rs879922, which belong to the ACE2 gene. The level of ACE2 activity was very low in normal healthy younger persons, and was reported to be increased in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Thus, th...

Conclusion: The combination of CHMs and CMT increased the effective rate of cardiac function and LVEF scores and reduced HAMD and MLHFQ scale scores, which was a potential therapeutic strategy that improved the management of CHF patients complicated with depression. Future trials were needed to verify the above results since abnormal heterogeneity and poor quality of literature have existed in the included studies. PMID: 32382309 [PubMed]

Abstract Many cultivated and wild plants are used for the management of various diseases, specifically renal and hepatic diseases and those of the immune and cardiovascular systems. In China, medicinal plants from ancient to modern history have been used in patients with angina pectoris, congestive heart failure (CHF), systolic hypertension, arrhythmia, and venous insufficiency for centuries. The latest increase in the fame of natural products and alternative medicine has revived interest in conventional remedies that have been consumed in the management of CVD. The cardio-protective properties of the various...

Authors: Li L, Zhong S, Cheng B, Qiu H, Hu Z Abstract Heart failure (HF) is the severe and terminal stage of various heart diseases. A growing number of studies have suggested the potential clinical significance of gut microbiota in the pathophysiology of HF. Herbal medicine (HM) plays a role in rebalancing the composition of gut microbiota and is widely used in the prevention and treatment of HF. There are many similarities between intestinal microecology and the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, such as the holistic concept and the theory of the "heart's connection with the small intestine." Th...

Authors: Sandamali JAN, Hewawasam RP, Jayatilaka KAPW, Mudduwa LKB Abstract Dose-dependent cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin may lead to irreversible congestive heart failure. Although multiple mechanisms are involved, generation of free radicals is the most commonly postulated mechanism. Therefore, free radical scavengers are considered as potential therapeutic agents. As Murraya koenigii leaves are a rich source of flavonoids and phenols, they have the ability to scavenge free radicals effectively. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the cardioprotective potential of Murraya leaf extract against...

This study investigated the effects of Chinese herbal formula B307 on thyroidectomy-induced cardiopulmonary exercise dysfunction in rats. Twenty male rats were equally divided into four groups: negative control with sham treatment, positive control with oral B307 treatment only, thyroidectomy treatment only, and thyroidectomy with B307 posttreatment groups. The feeding dose of B307 was 50 mg/kg per day for 14 days. We examined and then compared the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (T3), free thyroxine (T4), and reactive oxygen species (ROS) from the blood of these four groups. Also, we compar...

Authors: Lin F, Chen HW, Zhao GA, Li Y, He XH, Liang WQ, Shi ZL, Sun SY, Tian PP, Huang MY, Liu C Abstract There has been an increase in morbidity and mortality related to coronary heart disease (CHD) in China in recent years. Numerous clinical experiences and studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays an important role in the prevention, treatment, and prognosis of CHD. However, the mechanism of TCM in the treatment of CHD has not yet been elucidated. The circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network consists of miRNA that is competitively bound by circRNA, and miRNA regulates the transcription level of mRNA. T...
